Celebrating San Francisco
Faced with the daunting task of identifying a visual theme that would
be emblematic of the city and could unify the deck, the creative team
determined that it simply could not be done. No single theme could
do justice to the contemporary complexion of the area, and simultaneously
reflect a long tradition of visual and cultural experimentation.
Instead, Turner & Associates found themselves drawing from the
original idea of diversity itself - finding inspiration in the past
and the present, architectural details from old Victorian homes, pieces
of wain-scotting, wallpaper, wrought iron railings, streetcar badges,
metal grates, tattoos, piece parts of odd signs and scraps of whatever
— all these things found their way into the visual and cultural blender
that had defined the project itself in the first place.
This deck was designed, written, and produced by Turner & Associates
and illustrated by Chad Cameron. The deck was printed by Hemlock Printers.
The paper was supplied by Appleton Coated.
